Chapter Twelve: Who I amAuthor: Rachel WarrenMy name is Rachel Warren. I am 32 years old of this date May 25 2011 as I write this book. I am pure 100% Korean United State Citizen, I am proud to be USA. I am also proud to be born again Christian. I am hard of hearing, I wear two hearing aids, but I read lips very well, I rely on closed captions or open captions when I watch TV shows, plays, I have cognitive learning disabilities. I like meeting new people, please do not be afraid of meeting me. I am human being. If you like to know more about my disabilities feel free to ask me in a nice way. You do not need to shout when you talk to me, please do not cover your mouth when you talk to me or with your back turn, do not talk to me in other rooms. If you know sign languages great use it. If you take your time to get to know me, you will be surprise of things that I enjoyed or like, you never know we might become best of friends. You would find out that I am the nicest person you ever could ask in friendship. I may be annoying and I may talk a lot, but deep down I am a very kind loving person who do things so much for people and never ask for anything in return. I even do things out of my way to help people. Another thing that does bother me is sometime I offended people or I say things in mean way and their feeling end up being hurt. I do not do those things on purpose, so the person will stop talking to me and stop being my friend, then one day I confront to that person, found out why he or she stop being my friend is because of what I said. If I ever offended a person that person need to let me know in a nice way. If I never know I offended someone then I just figure we still friends and everything okay, but just because I have disabilities doesn’t mean you can’t just walk up and tell me things. Other thing is to pretend to be my friends and take advantage of me and making me feel dumb like some of my jerk ex boyfriends done, other friends did. No I am not retarted, having cognitive learning disabilities have nothing to do with my hearing loss. I just happen to have both disabilities. I am thankful our daughter not deaf or hard of hearing when she was born, she is a hearing person. But I will still teach her sign languages so she and I can communicate, her dad know some signs. I am still teaching him more signs. I am not dumb either, people been calling me dumb too because of the way I think, they even make fun of the way I speak, having speech problems and my grammars all that affect my disabilities. Making fun of a person is not nice especially people like us who have disabilities and are not super smart. That the lowest you can do to a person. Like our Pledge Allegiance said. “One Nation Under God Indivisible and Justice for All” Well I am done I completed my book. I am not expecting this book to popular, or to be sold over million copies. I am not expecting to be famous either. I am not a hero. I am not doing this to make money, so I don’t need money or want any. I wrote this book so people have better understanding about me and my disabilities and not assume things, have better understanding about anyone who have disabilities as well. I hope this book will help in lot of way, but then again maybe it won’t, there be people who won’t care to bother to read this. Rate This Story |
