My Life Story: share your experience with others
My life story was written because I wanted to leave a legacy behind. Writing life stories can be a great experience, one that you can share with family and friends, and one that will live on well after you are gone.
Life story writing
Your life story will flow better if it has a certain theme to it, instead of just scrolling off the happenings of your life like a history book. Before you start to write your life story, you may want to think hard about the most important part of your life. This may be a divorce, marriage, tragedy or triumph of some sort. For example, in my life story I centered on my first child’s birth and went from there.
After you have picked out your theme, you can start to build your story up around it. This way, you will get the most important parts of your life in your book, and keep out the minute details. For example, when I wrote my life story, I based it around the birth of my first child, which was the most important part of my life.
Book Techniques
The story of your life will be all about you, and probably an easy task to accomplish. However, you will want to have some order to it. While you may want to go with the above mentioned theme, you will still want to keep the book in some sort of chronological order. If you choose to tell the story this way, as I did in my life story, you may want to start at your birth, and then go forward in order from there.
However, one unique technique I used when I wrote my life story was talking about my ancestry. Many people have a unique history that can really make a story compelling and interesting. If your family history is still an exciting story within your family, you may want to use it in your lifestory.
Gather up Memorabilia
Writing my life story was accomplished easier when I gathered up stuff from my past. I needed help in remembering details and events, so I dug through photo albums, videos, letters and souvenirs. I wanted my life story to have the most details as possible, and I needed a little help in remembering.
Lifestory writing can be quickly accomplished once your memory starts flowing. Once one memory is sparked, a whole flood may be brought forth. If you do not have many souvenirs or pictures to look at, you could ask family and friends what they have that could help. You never know, you may end up with a memory of an important event that you have forgotten all about!
Why write?
When I wrote my life story, I also wrote it because of unresolved trauma in my life. My life story writing was a way to help me overcome my past and move on with the future.
You may write your life story for a number of reasons, whether it is for your family and friends, to help with leftover issues in your life, or simply to get your story down on paper.
Whatever you’re reasoning, you will be glad you wrote about your adventures. I am certainly glad I wrote about my life story!
